I decided in the beginning of 2021 that I would start tracking books I’ve read this year and what I thought about them. I know this would likely be easier with Goodreads or similar, but I prefer a text list.
Book: Terminal Beach by J.G Ballard
Book: An Astronaut’s Guide to LIfe on Earth by Chris Hadfield
Book: Soccer in Sun and Shadow by Eduardo Galeano
Book: Atomic Habits by James Clear
Book: Yes Minister by Jonathan Lynn
Updated on May 10, 2021
Book: Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
Book: Facundo by Domingo Sarmiento
Book: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Book: Meditation is Not What You Think by Jon Kabat-Zinn
Textbook: Javascript: A Definite Guide 7th Ed. by David Flanagan
Graphic Novel: The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace & Babbage by Sydney Padua
Also I have only finished reading the Chris Hadfield book so far, ha ha. Maybe I should aim to finish the Atomic Habits book next, so I can start the habit of finishing books :).
Update on June 3, 2021
Book: Zen and the Art of Archery
Book: What is Zen? by Alan Watts
Book: No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe
Book: Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges
I finished the first three over the last few weeks or so. Interesting reading, currently thinking a lot about J.G Ballard’s work, namely Crash and High Rise, both titles I was introduced to by the film adaptions, which are… really good actually? Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, and Elizabeth Moss are all in the High Rise film, while the adaption of Crash was directed by none other than David fucking Cronenberg, with 90’s James Spader playing the protagonist.
Needless to say, here’s hoping the books are at least halfway as good as the movies.
Update Around Late November
Book: What is Zen? by Alan Watts, again…
Book: The Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchett
Book: How To Fix Damn Near Everything by Franklynn Peterson
